The EcoStix® family of novel waterborne pressure
sensitive adhesives (PSAs) incorporates our
patented EcoMer® technology.
They are "smart" adhesives whose
adhesive properties are designed to turn off
in response to specific external conditions.
For example, our EcoStix
31401W product is a specially designed grade
of PSA that provides label removability under
customer-specific requirements. The functional
groups on the EcoMer sugar macromer within
the EcoStix PSA product are designed to respond
to the customer's label removal conditions,
such as wash-off labels designed to be removed
at 50°C.
Our repulpable pressure sensitive adhesives
are designed to solve the paper recycling industry's
stickies problem. The adhesive properties of
EcoStix PSAs are turned off during the paper
recycling process, thus guaranteeing complete
removal from the process stream.
Why Use EcoStix?
EcoStix adhesive products
exhibit performance required by industrial
customers, while providing environmentally
friendly attributes demanded by governments,
regulators and consumers. They are similar
in appearance and price to conventional acrylic
PSAs. They are designed to provide a "drop
in" solution to both narrow and wide web
coaters' product needs. The copolymer structure
can be altered to provide a wide range of pressure
sensitive sugar-acrylic copolymers, with a
performance window broader than seen in most
competitive acrylic systems.
Product
Attributes
EcoStix products are designed for a wide range
of paper label, stamp, film and specialty applications.
EcoStix products also have
the added features of true repulpability for
paper recycling, low VOCs, and biobased content
all of which provide an improved environmental
footprint. Finally, their ease of use, ease
of clean up and low internal grit can result
in operational savings arising from reduced
scrap, reduced down time and extended filter
life.

Advantages
Advantages of these new biosynthetic hybrid
polymers include a broad spectrum of performance,
removability of labels, true repulpability
for paper recycling, low levels of volatile
organic compounds (VOCs), and biobased content.
These new biosynthetic hybrid polymers can
replace potentially damaging and non-renewable
PSA petrochemicals in many formulations and
applications.
