EcoSynthetix Inc. has developed biobased building blocks for incorporation into synthetic adhesive polymers for paper and other applications. These bio-synthetic hybrid copolymers are characterized by high performance, yet are designed to be recycling friendly. At the core of this technology are sugars that have been modified to provide added chemical and thermal stability.

These new biobased building blocks, trade named EcoMer®, are the first reactive monomers developed for the adhesive industry in twenty-five years. EcoMer® building blocks can be produced at various viscosity levels and can be chemically joined to conventional acrylic building blocks to create sugar-based copolymers for applications including adhesives, inks and toners, among others. Advantages include a broad spectrum of performance, true repulpability for paper recycling, low levels of volatile organic compounds (VOCs), and biobased content.
