EcoMer® is
a family of novel patented sugar-based macromers that
are now available to polymer manufactures as biobased
building blocks to create new waterborne sugar-acrylic
adhesives and resins. The sugar used to produce EcoMer® is
derived from an annually renewable resource, such
as glucose from corn starch. They are the first collection
of harmless new monomers to be introduced to the adhesive
industry in 20 years.
EcoMer® can be produced
at various viscosity levels, ranging from a resinous
solid to a pumpable, 100% solids liquid. It can be chemically
joined (copolymerized) to conventional acrylic building
blocks (acrylic monomers) to create sugar-based copolymers
for widespread applications including adhesives, inks
and toners.
Advantages of these new biosynthetic hybrid polymers
include a broad spectrum of performance, removability
of labels, true repulpability for paper recycling,
low levels of volatile organic compounds (VOCs), and
biobased content. These new biosynthetic hybrid polymers
can replace potentially damaging and non-renewable
petrochemicals in many formulations and applications. EcoMer®
can also provide exciting opportunities to create entirely
new biobased products.
At this time, samples of the EcoMer®
biobased building blocks are only available after execution
of a Non-Disclosure Agreement and a Material Transfer
/ Sampling Agreement.
